Bell Ringing

Bell Ringing

From the middle of the 18th century, Llanbadarn villagers have been called to worship and informed about national events by the St Padarns Bells sounding forth from the church’s massive tower. Originally there were 6 bells but in 1885 as part of the extensive restoration programme undertaken on the church, the 6 bells were renovated and the ring increased to 8. The Rudhall bell foundry cast the oldest bells in the tower, in Gloucester in 1749.

The Millennium Restoration
By the end of the last Century more work was needed on the frame and the opportunity taken to increase the ring from 8 to 10 bells. A massive fundraising effort by the church assisted by the local community saw work completed in the summer of 2001 and today St Padarns has one of the finest sets of bells in Wales and today the tower is a much sought venue for ringing tours and has even been visited by ringers from the United States of America.

If you would like to learn to ring, you are very welcome to attend the practice nights every THURSDAY evening starting at 7.30 p.m.
